It sure rains a lot in George. Basically every day that we’d been here, it has rained at some point during the day. You may wake up with cloudy skies but then it burns off for a cooking few hours before the clouds pitch up again, without warning, and you’re rushing to bring the washing in.
No wonder it’s so green here! Also, when you pick the cost effective option, you may just find yourself surrounded by farms, across the way from the George airport runway. So yes, you wake up to the sounds of roosters, you hear planes taking off and landing throughout the day and then, at around 3pm every day, the neighbouring farms spread manure and then the whole situation sort of stinks. Anyway, we will leave here tomorrow and head towards Teniqua Treetops in Knysna. Hooray! The excitement is palpable.
Day 9: Exploring George
We have got one more thing scheduled before we leave George tomorrow but you’re going to have to come back and find out what that is ?. Provided, of course, that we survive another round of luggage Tetris and actually get there before we lose our minds.

We headed to the Garden Route Botanical Gardens today and found it to be lush and interesting with loads of areas to keep the kids entertained. I mean, they even have a maze! I know, right? Add to the fact that kids under 12 get in for free (as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult) and adults pay just R10.
The GetAFix Cafe attached to the Gardens, while child and pet friendly, has a very boring menu but, it will do in a pinch. Our trip was cut short by the rain deciding to threaten it’s return with a few well placed drops. Of course, by the time we got back to the car, the sun was shining brightly. Thanks George. You’re awesome!
